The Steam Deck has a whole lot of verified games, but this week it’s reached an all-new high point. Valve has confirmed that the Steam Deck now has 5,000 verified games. Many of these are AAA titles from big-name studios. Like DOOM Eternal, FFVII Remake, and Yakuza: Like A Dragon.
But there are also a fair amount of indie titles available that have officially verified support. It’s still merely a drop in the bucket compared to Steam’s entire library of available titles. However, 5,000 is a huge number and as of this moment, is more than enough to likely contain at least one or two games that everyone would be interested in playing on the go.
Of course, reaching the 5,000 marker isn’t where Valve is going to stop. It’s going to keep pushing that number up higher and higher. What most people should take away though is that in less than a year, Valve has ensured that 5,000 games were verified to work on its handheld gaming PC.
Valve has “plenty more” verified games to go for the Steam Deck
Back on August 30 Valve took a short moment to celebrate the accomplishment of reaching 5,000 verified titles. In that same tweet it also says there are “plenty more to go.” Indeed, there are plenty more to go and we can think of at least a few that surprisingly aren’t verified yet. Perhaps those games never will get verification.
It’s tough to say. Valve is ensuring users though that it continues to soldier on and test games to get them the verification badge. Even for games that don’t have the verification, there’s still a good chance that many of those games are perfectly playable. It may just be that Valve hasn’t tested them yet.
With that in mind, don’t let the lack of a verification badge stop you from playing something. Install it and give it a try. As you might be pleasantly surprised when some games do actually end up working. In addition to reaching 5,000 verified games, Valve has also sped up production and shipments of the Steam Deck in recent weeks. The third time it’s done so this year.
Oh hey, another big milestone – we just passed 5,000 tested Verified and Playable titles on Steam Deck! Plenty more to go (so many games on Steam), but just wanted to take a moment to celebrate! 🎉 pic.twitter.com/el7iBWdEo8
