Widgets have been a staple in Android for more than a decade, and the Google Search widget is one of them. The widget has given you the option to customize its look for a while, but it’s always been a chore. However, Google is making editing the Search widget a lot more convenient, according to 9To5Google.
When you place the Google Search widget, you’re given the classic Google search bar aesthetic. It’s a white pill-shaped search bar that opens the Google app when you tap on it. You can change the look of this bar, though it was never really convenient.
You would have to go to the Google app, dig into the settings, and find the options to edit the widget. It’s a bit more work than most people would like to do.
But, Google just made editing the search bar more convenient
Widgets sometimes give you additional options to edit them. Along with that, holding down on them will give you the option to resize them.
Now, Google is going to give you a new option when you’re editing the search bar widget. When you add or move the search bar, you will see a very Material You-esque button appear on the lower right. When you tap on this button, you will see the edit option pop up.
These give you the option to edit the color scheme of the bar and other options. You have the option to give it the dark theme or make it comply with the color of your wallpaper.
You’re also able to manually dial in the hue and saturation of the color. The background of the search bar will change colors, while the Google, microphone, and Lens icons will go either black or white depending on the brightness of the color. Last but not least, you can adjust the transparency of the bar.
These were all things you could do when this feature was released in 2018. However, they’re much easier to access now with the convenient edit button.
