The Google app is the next to get Material You

It seems like only 1 year, 8 months, and 9 days since Google first introduced Material You. Well, that’s because it was, and the search giant has been overhauling all of its apps to reflect the newer bubbly aesthetic ever since. Of all of Google’s products to receive Material You, it’s no surprise that the actual Google app is getting the new paint job.
It seems odd that Google is still revamping its apps while we’re ankle-deep into 2023. However, it just shows how many Google products there are in the wild. So far, the company’s upgraded the majority of its core apps. Now, it’s just changing up the last bit of apps to create a fully-unified experience.
The Google app now has the Material You design
The Google app is what most people use to make quick searches, so we’re all used to how it looks. Now, according to 9To5Google, Google is bringing some new design elements to the app. Starting off with the bottom bar, it’s a bit shorter than before. Google has been shortening the bottom bar on several of its apps like Gmail. Unlike Gmail, however, the bottom bar doesn’t take advantage of the Dynamic Color feature.
Next up, and true dark theme users will love this, the background for the settings is completely black while you’re using dark theme. People usually get annoyed when an app’s dark theme offers dark gray backgrounds rather than black. The background in the settings is black but not for the rest of the app.
The account switcher also saw a change. When you tap on your profile picture, the floating menu that pops up is a bit more rounded, as you’d expect. Also, there’s a two-toned look to it. The profile section, search history, Delete last 15 minutes option, Results for you, and your reminders are housed in a rounded square that’s a different shade from the rest of the floating menu. In the dark theme, it’s a bit darker than the rest of the menu.
Lastly, the toggles in the settings menu now use the new Material You toggles. There are circles housed in large pill-shaped switches.
If you’re looking forward to these changes, keep an eye out for the next update to hit your phone. Since it’s rolling out, you might want to wait a few days.
