The PlayStation Vita is coming to an Android phone near you, in the form an emulator launching for the platform later this week. According to Android Authority, PS Vita emulator Vita3K will be getting an Android release on February 12. The emulator’s creator, Macdu, confirms the release on the official Vita3K Discord channel. For enthusiasts of the PlayStation Vita, this is great news.
Because it gives you another way to play your favorite Vita titles on the go. Of course, enthusiasts of the Vita likely still own their Vita hardware. And you can just as easily carry that around with you. But, the Vita3K PlayStation Vita emulator for Android makes playing those titles a little more portable. Since you won’t have to carry around additional hardware. While this probably isn’t going to be as smooth of a gameplay experience as an actual Vita handheld, it’ll definitely be more convenient. And there’s a certainly a place for something like that.
The PlayStation Vita emulator for Android will not be on the Play Store
That is, at least for now. Macdu says the emulator will be available as an APK in the official Vita3K Discord channel on Sunday, February 12. So if you want the chance to play Vita games on your phone, you’ll need to join the Discord to get access to the APK file for installation on your phone or tablet.
It also appears that updates to emulator app will come from the Discord channel as well. You’ll need a device running Android 7.0 or later to run the app. Plus, it’ll need to be an ARM64 and support Vulkan 1.0. It’s also worth noting that emulators can have a tendency to be extremely resource heavy. So you may need a device with decent specs to play anything demanding.
As of right now there’s no mention of recommended specs. But the developer does plan to update the Discord post with those details. Likely closer to the availability date.
