The outer display on Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip phones is incredibly handy for quick checks. However, officially, it’s pretty limited on which apps it can run. If you’ve been craving more functionality from that sleek external screen, there’s a way. Thanks to a module from Samsung’s own Good Lock app, you can actually run almost any app on your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, Z Flip 7 FE, or Z Flip 6’s cover display.
It’s pretty sad that you still can’t run any app on the cover display of Flip devices by default. Direct rivals, like the Motorola Razr foldable phones, allow this. Fortunately, there are tools like MultiStar that let you bypass this limitation.
How to run any app on your Galaxy Z Flip 7—and other Flips—cover display
Setting up MultiStar isn’t very complicated and increases the versatility of your handset. If you are not aware, MultiStar is a module of Good Lock, Samsung’s customization app. You can unlock the full potential of your Z Flip’s cover device by following the steps below.
Download Good Lock and MultiStar: Grab the Good Lock app from your phone’s Play Store or Galaxy Store. Once installed, open Good Lock, switch to the “Plugins” tab, and download the MultiStar module.
Select Your Apps: Open MultiStar, tap “I ♡ Galaxy Foldable,” then “Launcher Widget.” Here, you can select all the apps you want accessible on your cover screen.
Add the Widget: Go to your phone’s main “Settings” app, find the “Cover screen” menu, and then tap “Widgets.” Scroll down to find and add the “Good Lock Launcher” widget.
Once the widget is added, simply fold your phone, turn on the cover screen, and swipe left until you see the new Launcher widget. Now you can tap and open your selected apps directly. You can revisit MultiStar any time to customize your app list.
Why the Galaxy Z Flip 7 shines
This method works for several Galaxy Z Flip models. However, the experience is notably superior on the new Galaxy Z Flip 7. Its cover display is significantly larger and offers much more usable space than previous generations. This means app buttons are easier to tap, the interface feels less cramped, and you can even type comfortably with both hands—a big improvement over earlier models. The Z Flip 7 even lets you adjust the app’s UI to avoid interference from the camera’s cutouts.

This enhanced cover screen usability could mean you’ll find yourself unfolding your phone less often, especially when you’re on the go. This is quite useful for taking care of two factors: device durability and battery life. Regarding the former, using the cover screen will almost always result in unfolding the device less often, causing less impact to the internal display. As for battery life, while the cover screen is large, it’s still much smaller than the inner panel. This translates to less power consumption in your daily use.
