D-Link is back at CES 2020 and it has a number of new routers to show off. In fact, it has nine new routers it is announcing at the show this year.
But the most impressive router is its flagship router the Smart AX5400 Mesh WiFi 6 Router. As you can tell by the name, this is a smart router and also a WiFi 6 router. This is going to be a very future-proof router from D-Link, and with its price, you’d better hope so.
Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are both built-in
D-Link made this a smart router by building in both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, two of the more popular digital assistants that are available today.
These new routers „work with” Alexa and Google Assistant. So these are not smart speakers built-into your router. NETGEAR is still the only company to do that. Instead, it works with these assistants. Which is going to allow you to ask Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa for things like, the WiFi Password, or to pause your WiFi. This is a great way to get your kids attention.
It’s not quite as useful as having a smart speaker built into your router, but it still works pretty nicely.
There is also IFTTT support available on the Smart AX5400. Allowing you to do some automated things like, having your WiFi shut off when you leave the house.
Let’s talk about specs
The Smart AX5400 is the new WiFi 6 router, but it also does 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi too. It has 128MB of flash storage and 512MB of RAM. As well as six external antennas. There are four LAN ports and 1 WAN port available too. As far as USB goes, there are two, one 2.0 and one 3.0 port. And of course, it supports WPA 3 for encryption.
Now there are other models being announced today, like the AX2400, AX1800, AX1500 and the COVR-X1870. These are all mesh WiFi routers, and are also cheaper. Partly thanks to the fact that these are mostly WiFi 5 routers, and have only four external antennas. The COVR-X1870 has its antennas internally though. None of these have USB ports, that’s saved for the flagship AX5400.

Pricing and Availability
The D-Link Smart AX5400 Mesh WiFi 6 Router is going to be available in the first quarter of the year (so before the end of March) and it’ll cost $280.
As for the other mesh routers, the Smart AX1500 will be available in the first quarter for $120. The Smart AX1800 will be available in Q2 for $140, with the Smart AX2400 coming in Q3 for $160. Finally, the COVR-X1870 Whole Home Mesh System will be available in Q2 for $270.
