Huawei P40 Will Be Unveiled On March 26

Huawei announced quite a few products today, and it also announced the launch event date for the new P40.
The new flagship from Huawei is going to be unveiled on March 26, a little over a month from now. While we don’t yet know where the launch event will take place, it’ll likely be somewhere in Europe. Most likely in Paris once again. This is because Huawei’s CEO, Richard Yu really likes European cities like Paris and Munich.
„The world’s most powerful 5G flagship”
According to Yu, the Huawei P40 is going to be the „world’s most powerful 5G flagship” smartphone. Firing shots at Samsung, who recently announced the Galaxy S20 lineup, all of which are 5G flagship smartphones.
We don’t know a whole lot of confirmed aspects about this device. But it is expected to sport the new Kirin 990 chipset, which we’ve seen inside of a few other devices announced today in Barcelona. Including the Huawei Mate Xs and the MatePad Pro 5G. It is also a 5G chipset, so makes sense that Huawei would put it in the P40.
It is likely that the entire P40 lineup is going to sport 5G, similar to the Galaxy S20 lineup announced earlier this month. As OEMs and carriers are going all-in on 5G this year.
Expect a big focus on the camera
Huawei always has a big focus on the camera, but with the P series, the focus is even larger.
It was last year, with the P30 Pro, that Huawei introduced 50x zoom on a smartphone. And now that Samsung has introduced 100x zoom on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you can expect Huawei to do something similar.
It’s unclear what new camera features we can expect on the P40 series this year, but it’ll be great. Especially when Huawei has Leica working with them on the cameras on their smartphones. You know it’s going to be a great experience.
Now, unfortunately, as great as this phone might be, it’s going to be a tough sell in the West. This is because it won’t have Google apps or Google services included. This is due to the trade war between the US and China right now, where the US has placed Huawei on its entity list. Meaning that it cannot work with any US companies – including Google. And without Google, a lot of people in the West won’t even look at buying this phone.
We’ll find out more come March 26.
