Google Just Postponed The Android 11 Beta Launch

Google was all set to launch the Android 11 beta this week, but in a short Tweet over the weekend, the company announced that it was postponed.
The tweet was short and simple, „We are excited to tell you more about Android 11, but now is not the time to celebrate. We are postponing the June 3rd event and beta release. We’ll be back with more on Android 11, soon.” While the Android Developers team did not specifically mention the current situation in the US with many heated protests and riots happening around the country, that is likely why the company decided to postpone the event.
Currently, there’s no word on when Google will have the big Android 11 Beta Launch Show, but it could be quite a while before it actually happens.
This is just the latest wrench thrown into Google’s Android 11 plans
With the Android 11 Beta Launch Show being postponed, it’s just the latest wrench being thrown at Google and it’s Android 11 plans. Of course, the first one was the pandemic. Which forced Google to cancel a physical I/O event this summer, and ultimately cancelled it altogether.
Now, all the unrest over George Floyd’s death, is the next wrench thrown into its plans. And to be quite honest, Google is making the right move here by postponing the Android 11 beta. Now is not a good time to hold an event like that, even if it is online only. The attention needs to be on Floyd’s death and the officers responsible.
It comes after the Pixel 4a was also postponed
While not official, we did hear from a few very reputable sources that the Pixel 4a would be delayed. And that it won’t be coming until August, if not even later. This of course, was before Floyd’s death. So it was likely just due to the global pandemic which has affected the manufacturing of the Pixel 4a, and likely would affect the sales of the device. Though Pixel smartphones don’t sell that well anyways.
It’s been a tough year for the Android team at Google, as well as the Pixel team. It doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier.
Hopefully Google will reschedule the Android 11 Beta Launch Show for later this month, so that it is not delayed too much. Google has done something like this before, with the Galaxy Nexus, where it delayed the launch, due to Apple co-founder and former CEO, Steve Jobs passing away. Though, you could argue that the current situation is a much bigger deal for the US, than Jobs passing away from cancer.
