The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip launched back in February without 5G connectivity. Well, it seems like Samsung is preparing a 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip, but it won’t include mmWave support.
This information comes from Max Weinbach, a well-known tipster. He claims that the device will arrive rather soon, in „5ish months”. So, it will launch before the end of the year for sure, perhaps in October or November.
The 5G Galaxy Z Flip will not include mmWave support, it seems
The tipster also noted that the 5G Galaxy Z Flip will not include 5G mmWave support, so Verizon probably won’t sell it. The device will come to the US, though, that much he confirmed. You can expect AT&T and T-Mobile to carry it.
This is not the first time we’re hearing of the 5G Galaxy Z Flip. A report surfaced back in April, claiming that the device will come in August or September. Well, based on Mr. Weinbach’s info, it may come a bit later than expected.
He doesn’t seem to be sure on the release date, so take that with a grain of salt. We may get it in August / September, or October / November, we’ll see.
That report also hinted that the device will launch in some new color options. Dark Gray and Copper Brown color variants seem to be on the way. The 4G Galaxy Z Flip is available in four color options, by the way.
The device launched in Mirror Black, Mirror Purple, and Mirror Gold color options. Samsung also announced a special edition Thom Browne Edition of the device, which combines several colors.
The 5G variant of the Galaxy Z Flip will probably be the same as the 4G one, but with the addition of a 5G modem. As you probably already know, the device is fueled by the Snapdragon 855 Plus, so that same SoC will be included in the 5G model.
The device will be a bit heavier and thicker than the 4G model
The report from April also noted that the device may be a bit heavier, and thicker. It may be around 0.1mm thicker, which is something you will not notice. We’re not sure how much heavier will it be, though.
The Galaxy Z Flip is the first vertically-foldable device from the company. It is the second foldable handset Samsung ever announced, and it looks much better than the Galaxy Fold.
The bezels on the inner display are much thinner, and this is a phone that folds, not a tablet that folds. The Galaxy Fold 2 is expected to arrive in August, though, probably before the 5G Galaxy Z Flip.
The Galaxy Fold 2 is rumored to launch alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series devices. It will bring various improvements over the first-gen product, including much sleeker design, and UTG protection.
