OnePlus 8 Series Getting Android 11 Beta Today!

When Google released the first beta build for Android 11 yesterday, we knew other devices were getting it soon. We just didn’t expect it to come this soon. The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro is getting the Android 11 Beta build today.
In fact, the builds are live right now, however the forum post outlining how to install the update is showing a 404. So it would be smart to wait to flash it onto your device until the forum post is back online. As OnePlus may have run into an issue with the beta and pulled it for now. So always a good idea to hang tight until it’s back.
What is broken in the Android 11 Beta on OnePlus 8 series?
OnePlus has released a list of what is broken in the beta for the 8 series. And the list is actually not that long, though beta users will likely find some other issues as more people use it.
According to OnePlus, here’s everything that’s broken in the Android 11 Beta: All data will be cleared while flashing the build, Face unlock is unavailable, Google Assistant („OK Google”) does not work, Video calling does not work, Certain UI screens look less than desirable, Some apps may not function as expected, and System stability issues.
Most of these issues are not dealbreakers, but could be a bit annoying. Especially if you use the OK Google hotword quite often. Or video calling, as that doesn’t work either. But let’s not forget that this is indeed a beta. So not everything is going to work.
Should I install the Beta on my phone?
That’s totally up to you, but it could cause more issues than its worth. And if you’re not super tech savvy, then it’s a good idea not to flash the beta.
OnePlus does caution that there is a risk of bricking your phone when you flash this build of Android 11. So you’re going to want to make sure that you read the instructions carefully before you proceed.
It’s also worthwhile to note that this is only for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro (there are separate builds to). Do not try and flash these onto other OnePlus devices, as it will brick them. Additionally, the Verizon and T-Mobile models are not compatible with the beta. Only the unlocked OnePlus 8 series.
And finally, make sure that your battery is at least above 30% with a minimum of 3GB of free space available.
