Playing Nintendo Switch games on your Android phone is now a reality.
Now you might think, „why would I want to play Nintendo Switch games on my Android phone when I already have a Switch or Switch Lite?” And if you already own one of the consoles, then you may not want to play the games you own for it on your phone.
Both versions of the Switch are already portable. So that almost defeats the purpose of having or needing the games for them on your phone. That being said, your phone is ultimately more portable than either Switch. And the fact that it’s even possible to play Switch games on your mobile device is the cool thing here.
There is also a few caveats that are worth mentioning.
Playing Nintendo Switch games on your Android phone requires a fast processor
You can’t use just any phone for this. As to play these games you need to use an emulator called Egg NS Emulator, and it doesn’t appear to work very well with anything older than a Snapdragon 855 mobile platform.
That means if you own a Pixel 4, or any number of smartphones that launched around the same time or after, you should be good to go as long as they use a Snapdragon 855, 855+, or 865. There are a couple of other things you’ll need. Such as a game controller.
The one used in the video is a Gamesir X2, though any controller that your phone supports might work just fine. The Razer Kishi for example is one that could be a viable alternative.
Other than the emulator, the controller, and a phone with at least a Snapdragon 855, you’ll need ROMs for the games. With that said, the user in the video owns a Switch and the games that are being used in the emulator. And it goes without saying that it should be the same for anyone that plans to use this emulator.
Also worth noting is that if you disconnect the controller you use at any point after you launch a game, the game will crash. FPS in games is also not going to be as smooth as on the Switch. So keep that in mind.
There is a large list of supported games
If you can get past the FPS issues, and you own the games in the compatibility list and want to give this a try, there’s actually a pretty large list of games that Egg NS has tested.
This includes everything from Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu to Diablo III. Egg NS also details how compatible each game is. So you know which ones will run smoother and which ones have some slight issues.
At this point in time though not all Nintendo Switch games have been tested. Legend of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild for example is not on the list. Still, this is a cool novelty that Nintendo fans may love.
And the emulator should get better with time.
