Stadia is still missing a few features that were promoted and discussed back before its launch, one of those being Family Share.
Family Share is a feature that is available for Google Play accounts for things like apps, games, and more on mobile devices. And when it finally comes to Stadia it’ll be a pretty big benefit to those who want to play games with family members.
A new report from 9To5Google highlights what this will actually afford users when the feature arrives, and it looks like Family Share on Stadia is going to be pretty generous. Perhaps more generous than people were expecting.
Family Share on Stadia will include sharing of games and DLC
People merely expected that Family Share would open up the ability to share Pro accounts. But it appears it will do more than that.
Based on some strings of text found within the most recent version of the Stadia app, the feature will allow users to share games, and all the DLC for those games. Google does clearly state that some content may not be available to share.
But it also says that games, add-ons, and any games you claim through Stadia Pro as free titles are all sharable. So most of the content that one account either buys or claims, will be usable by anyone else.
The best part is that those other users won’t need to have a Pro account to access and play any of that content. There’s still details that we don’t know about Family Share. Like whether or not people on the same family account can play with each other simultaneously.
There’s still no release date
While Family Share sounds like it’ll be a major boost to value of the service, there’s still no release date for the feature’s arrival.
Google has now confirmed that it has no release date set for Family Share anymore. Whereas it used to state that it would be sometime in 2020. What seems more likely now is that Google may have ended up pushing back the arrival of the feature for Stadia into 2021.
Which would put it on par with the arrival of the platform on the Chromecast with Google TV. So long as both arrived around the same time. Support for Stadia on the Chromecast is arriving sometime in the first half of 2021. So there’s at least a time window there. But there’s no time window for Family Share at the moment.
