Destiny 2 went free-to-play with the launch of Shadowkeep back in the Fall of 2019, and it was technically free-to-play for Stadia as well.
Though, not really. Because to have access to Stadia you needed to purchase the Founders or Premiere bundle, and pay for the Stadia Pro membership to play Destiny 2 since it was a Pro game.
It’s still a Pro game as of today, but Google has now confirmed that Destiny 2 is going to be a truly free-to-play title on Stadia. This is good news for anyone who has yet to hop on the Stadia Pro bandwagon (though you probably should give the free trial a shot).
Because Destiny 2 is one of the best games out right now. And it just dropped a new expansion on November 10.
Destiny 2 on Stadia goes truly free-to-play, which means no subscription required
Looking to give Destiny 2 on Stadia a shot? If you answered yes, then there are a few things you should know.
One is that right now Destiny 2: The Collection is still a Pro title that can be claimed for free. This includes extra content that you can’t access in the free-to-play version.
The second is that the free-to-play version of Destiny 2 is Destiny 2: New Light. Which contains an introductory set of missions and quests to do as a new player to the Destiny 2 universe. You won’t have access to all activities as some requires the purchase of the season pass, as well as the new expansion, Beyond Light. Though you should have access to loads of content from the initial campaign, and the first few DLCs.
Lastly, is that the game is not free-to-play at this very moment. It will open up to all players, even players who have the free Stadia membership, on November 19 at 9AM Pacific Standard Time. This is also when Destiny 2: The Collection can no longer be claimed as a Pro game.
Ghost Recon Wildlands lands on the same day
Google isn’t just opening up access to Destiny 2 for all players. It’s also adding new games this week.
One of those is Ghost Recon Wildlands. A fan favorite that seems to be more well-liked than the current Ghost Recon Breakpoint that released last Fall. Google doesn’t state just how much the game will cost, but it does confirm that it will arrive in the Stadia Store on Thursday November 19.
And since it’s a bit of an older game you may not end up paying the full $60 that it cost when it launched on consoles initially.
