Apple TV Is Coming To Chromecast With Google TV In 2021

Google announced today that the Apple TV app is going to be rolling out to Chromecast with Google TV devices „early next year”.
It is not coming to Android TV first, which is a bit surprising, since Google TV is built on top of Android TV. But it will land on Android TV in the future. There’s no mention of exactly when, but it’ll likely happen in 2021.
This comes quick on the heels of Apple Music coming to Google’s smart speakers and displays. And it’s just another way that Apple is looking to reach more users, or reach those that don’t use solely Apple products. As there are quite a few Android users that use an iPad (like myself) or a Mac, or even an Apple TV. Now, you’ll be able to use these services on Android as well as Apple’s products.
Apple TV+ will appear in Google TV recommendations
The significance of Apple TV+ coming to Google TV, is the fact that it will be part of the recommendations section of the interface. So you’ll be seeing movies and TV shows from Apple TV+ show up on your home screen, once it does land on Google TV.
Apple TV+ includes titles like “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Defending Jacob,” “Greyhound” and “Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special.”
You’ll also be able to access your library of movie and TV show purchases from Apple. These include those that were recommended from Apple TV channels. And with Family Sharing, you can share your Apple TV channels with up to six family members.
Apple TV+ does cost $4.99/month, making it one of the cheapest streaming services around. It doesn’t have as many originals like Netflix or Hulu yet, but it does have a lot of big names. Including Oprah.
With this addition, Chromecast with Google TV is the only platform that has all of the major streaming services.
