The Pokémon World Championship will stream on Twitch so anyone who can’t attend is able to see all the action. That stream begins tomorrow, August 16, at 9AM PST. If you’re planning on watching there are a few things you should know first. The 9AM start time is only for the opening ceremony. This will kick off the event and will last for around 30 minutes before moving onto the preshow.
At 9:30AM, the preshow begins, then 15 minutes later the stream will move onto the Pokémon GO Invitational. This will be the first year that Pokémon GO is represented at this event, giving players a chance to be recognized as the world’s best trainer. If you play Pokémon GO yourself this is the stream you may want to watch out for.
That being said, there will be four individual streams. This includes the main stage, Pokémon VG stream, Pokémon TCG stream, and Pokémon Tournament DX stream. The Opening ceremony will be streamed across all four of them at 9AM. After the Pokémon GO invitational starts, though, the other streams will break off to showing their own related content.
For example, the Pokémon TCG stream will begin showing Swiss Rounds matches revolving around the Pokémon trading card game. These will continue until 8PM. The Pokémon VG stream will be the same and air matches from the Swiss Rounds for the same times. The main stage stream will however begin showing an assortment of matches from both of those starting at 11:45AM.
Finally the Pokémon Tournament DX stream will air until 4PM on its own respective stream. Viewers should keep in mind that this is just the first day’s events. There will be streams happening on Saturday and Sunday as well. For Saturday the times will be mostly the same but the streams will be a bit mixed up. Things kick off at 8:45AM on the main stage, with VG and TCG streams happening from 9AM until 3PM.
At 3PM, the main stage stream will dedicate things to the Senior and Masters Division finals of Pokémon Tournament DX. Then at 6PM the stream will switch over to the VG Top Cut. Of course there will once again be dedicated streams for just those games on their own channels. The VG stream goes until 7PM while the TCG stream goes until 10PM.
The Pokémon Tournament DX stream will go until 3PM on its own channel, at which point it’ll switch over to the main stage stream as this is for the Championship Bracket. On Sunday things will be a little bit different as everything will be shown on the stream for the main stage.
Times for Sunday start at 9AM and will end on or around 4PM. As these are the final matches to announce the winners matches will go until completed and go in a specific order. Things begin with the TCG Juniors rounds, which will then move onto Seniors and then to the Masters round. After the TCG Masters is wrapped up, the stream will move to the Juniors, Seniors, and Masters rounds for the Pokémon Video Game Championships.
These should all be wrapped up by 4PM to make time for the closing ceremony but times are listed as subject to change, so that’s something that’s worth keeping mind as well. If you’re interested in watching the main stage stream it can be found at twitch.tv/pokemon.
