Nintendo is ready to let you test out the multiplayer beta for Mario Kart Tour. The test is now live for anyone to jump in and start tossing red shells at their friends.
The company confirmed that a test for the multiplayer feature in Mario Kart Tour would be going live later this week. Specifically on January 23, which is today. And now that the time is here, all you need to do is launch the game and activate multiplayer.
Unlike the first test, which went live last year, you don’t need to be a Gold Pass subscriber to participate. This multiplayer beta is open to everyone.
The multiplayer beta for Mario Kart Tour has no listed end date
While the beta test has just gone live, there’s no telling how long it will last. Because Nintendo hasn’t stated how long they will keep the test open to players.
Chances are though it’ll stay open just as long as the last one. It’s also possible that Nintendo may keep it open until it’s ready to launch the feature proper, and just switch from the beta to the full rollout without taking it offline.
That being said if you didn’t get to check out multiplayer last time and you’re interested in it, don’t wait on giving it a try. Just in case it does go back offline for a bit. It’s also worth keeping in mind that this is a beta test.
As with any beta test, there may be bugs and things could be broken. The point of betas is so that developers can catch bugs and fix them before launching. So if you notice anything that seems a bit off, report it.
You can play multiplayer against both friends and random global players
Since Mario Kart has always been more fun with friends, that’s the point of this multiplayer feature. You can play with personal friends and Nintendo account friends by creating a lobby for them to join.
However you can also play against random players from around the globe by just joining a random match. Your friends may not always be available to throw down on some good old fashioned kart racing.
And perhaps you still want to check out a multiplayer match or two. That’s where the random matches come in handy. If you’ve held off on Mario Kart Tour for any reason, now is as good of a time as any to give it a try.

The second multiplayer test is here! This time around, all players, including #MarioKartTour Gold Pass subscribers, can participate. Race your friends by tapping Menu, and then Multiplayer in-game. pic.twitter.com/IYqKWNmIue
