The time has come for people without Pixel phones to enjoy playing Stadia on their Android device as support is finally expanding.
Google has officially confirmed that new devices would be added into the mix. Better still, the support is coming this week. Though, it’s not quite yet available at the time of writing.
Luckily, it won’t be long as new support is literally just a couple of days away. Stadia launched back in November of 2019 and at launch it has only ever supported Pixel phones.
More device support is something that people have been requesting for quite some time. So no doubt users are going to be pretty happy about this new development.
Stadia device support expands on February 20
In just a short couple of days you’ll be able to play Stadia on your phone even if it isn’t a Pixel device.
Support will still be kind of limited as the support is expanding, but only to phones from a few more manufacturers. These being Samsung, ASUS, and Razer.
Once Thursday rolls around, you’ll be able to play Stadia on the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2, the ROG Phone and ROG Phone II, and a handful of Galaxy devices. For the Galaxy phones, you can use any of the Galaxy S series phones as old as the Galaxy S8 forward. This includes the Galaxy S20.
You can also use the Galaxy Note 8, Note 9, and Note 10. This is a pretty good expansion. But it’s still a far cry from the device support offered by GeForce NOW and Project xCloud. Google also doesn’t mention anything about more devices beyond those listed.
There’s currently no mention of additional devices
Right now the phones listed above are the only new phones you can play Stadia games on.
Google will likely continue to roll out support for additional devices in the future and as the year goes on. However, it hasn’t mentioned anything at all about additional support in this announcement.
For now, users are limited to the ones mentioned. That means if you have a different Android phone which is not officially supported yet, your options for playing Stadia on the device are to use the workaround that has let some users play through Chrome.
If you have an older phone, it might be worth considering upgrading to one of the newly supported devices. Since the Galaxy S20 is one of them, you can have one of the best phones out there and play games on Stadia.
