The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip got announced less than two weeks ago, and the very first concept design of its successor already surfaced. The Galaxy Z Flip 2 concept image got published by the 'Fold Universe’.
The source shared only one image, and yet it looks great. Just to be clear, this is just a third-party concept render, not a leak of the Galaxy Z Flip 2 or anything of the sort.
The first Galaxy Z Flip 2 concept has design elements of both the Z Flip, and Motorola Razr
This image actually has design elements of both the Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr. It includes a much larger outer display, reminiscent of that on the Motorola Razr. Everything else screams the 'Z Flip’, though.
The device’s general design is similar to the Galaxy Z Flip, though the dual cameras on the back have been moved, they’re centered now, but still horizontally-aligned. An LED flash sits right below those cameras.
The volume up, volume down, and power / lock buttons are still on the right. That power button has been envisioned as a fingerprint scanner as well, so it has more than one purpose.
The designer envisioned glass on the back of the device, the same as on the original. The hinge also seems to be the one from the Galaxy Z Flip. The back side is still curved, as on the original.
We’ll see many more concept designs in the coming months, that’s for sure. The Galaxy Z Flip is a brand new phone, but it’s not perfect, not at all. In addition to having very poor scratch resistance, it could also use a larger outer display, and other improvements.
That’s where such concept renders come in. They’re supposed to improve upon the original design, as they represent wishes from their designers. If Samsung ends up announcing something similar to this concept phone next year, we would not be surprised.
The Galaxy Z Flip’s successor will almost certainly have a larger display on the outside
The Galaxy Z Flip 2, if it ever becomes a reality, will almost certainly have a larger display on the outside. The Z Flip’s 'Focus Display’ is somewhat useful, but it would be much more useful if it were larger.
The Motorola Razr has quite a few shortcomings, but it’s hard to argue that its outer display is more useful than the Z Flip’s. Not only because of its size, but the way Motorola is taking advantage of it.
The Galaxy Z Flip is a hot commodity at the moment. Consumers seem to be quite interested, despite its price tag, and Samsung is trying to secure enough units to sell.
The Galaxy Fold 2 or Galaxy Z Fold 2, depending on what name Samsung opts for, is expected to become the next high-profile foldable. Samsung is rumored to be preparing that launch for July or August, by the way.
