Sony had announced its new flagship yesterday, but has not shared its price tag. Well, According to ArsTechnica, the Sony Xperia 1 II will cost a whopping €1,199 in Europe.
The Sony Xperia 1 II will cost €1,199, and compete directly with the Galaxy S20 Ultra
We were hoping that Sony will price its new flagship under €1,000, but that did not happen. In fact, it wasn’t even close, as you can see. Sony’s new flagship will be in the Galaxy S20 Ultra waters with this price tag.
Those are not great news for the company, as Sony’s mobile brand is not as strong as it used to be. The company should have gone way lower with a price tag for this phone in order to be more competitive.
Competing with the likes of Samsung and Apple with such price tags is not a great idea. Sony may prove everyone wrong, though, of course, but that’s not as likely.
The Sony Xperia 1 II does seem to be a really compelling smartphone, on paper, but it’s quite expensive at €1,199. It will be interesting to see if Sony will be able to attract consumers in Europe.
It is worth noting that this handset is not yet available. In fact, you’ll have to wait quite a bit in order to get it. The Xperia 1 II will become available for purchase in late Spring.
Regarding the US, Sony did not share any pricing information just yet. The company is expected to make the phone available in the States, though, we’re just not sure when will it happen.
When it finally arrives, however, it is expected to be quite expensive. If Sony plans to keep that pricing at the same level as in Europe, the device will cost around $1,300.
The device comes with front-facing stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack
The Sony Xperia 1 II comes without display holes or notches. It does have some bezel above and below the display, but there’s a good reason for it. Not only was the Sony able to avoid notches and display holes, but it also included front-facing speakers.
Speaking of audio, the Xperia 1 II also comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone is IP65/IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, and it includes a physical camera shutter on the right.
The Snapdragon 865 fuels the Xperia 1 II, while the company included a 4,000mAh battery. The device supports fast charging, and wireless charging, while it also supports stereo recording.
You will find three 12-megapixel cameras on the back of this phone, with ZEISS optics. A single 8-megapixel camera is included on the phone’s front side, however. If you’d like to know more about its specs, click here.
