Google is going to be holding a live stream on June 3 for the Android team, and it looks like that is when the Android 11 Public Beta will be made available to all.
This is pretty much confirmed, after a video the Android team posted to YouTube entitled „Join us for #Android11: The Beta Launch Show!”. It’s a quick teaser to tell you that there is a live stream happening on June 3.
The public beta is a bit later this year, due to Google I/O being cancelled
For very obvious reasons, Google I/O this year was cancelled. That is normally when Google would launch the public beta for the next version of Android and also tell us about a bunch of the new features coming in this new version of Android.
But with current world events, that’s not happening. And Google decided not to do a live streamed Google I/O either, like what Apple is doing with WWDC. But the Android team will be doing a live stream instead. And considering that is usually the biggest news out of I/O, that’s a good thing.
Though the public beta is launching about a month later this year. Normally, it would have launched this week. So it’s a bit surprising that it won’t be launching until June 3. This could be due to Google needing to iron out many more bugs before it rolls out Android 11 as a public beta.
Expect some surprises in this live stream
This video teaser was a pretty cool one, telling us some of what to expect and that there are some things they aren’t quite ready to tell us about just yet.
It’s a playful video telling us that we won’t see this at the Shoreline Amphitheater and instead it’ll be available on our couch, or our home office, etc. And that’s because everyone is working from home.
The Android 11 Public Beta is still going to be a bit buggy, but not quite as buggy as the developer previews were. And that’s a really good thing. As those were pretty rough. These will be available for everyone that is running a Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. As well as some other devices that Google has worked with OEMs on. In the past, Xiaomi, OPPO, Sony and others have all been a part of the beta program for Google.
You can also expect to see the Pixel 4a announced at this live stream.
