Deezer has taken the decision to make lyrics available to its free subscribers according to its own blog. This means that lyrics are now available to all which will useful to many. This applies to the desktop version of the app as mobile users have been able to access lyrics for some time.
Many changes have occurred during the lockdown and one of those is listening to music more at home. With more of us working from home we are listening to more music through our laptops rather than our phones. Deezer has noted this pointing out that it has seen a 33% increase in the use of its lyric feature.
Lyrics Available to Free Desktop Users
Deezer is championing this change in order to encourage free subscribers to sing along to lyrics whilst at home. Now whilst Karaoke might not be everyone’s thing the ability to have lyrics easily available will be something most will find useful. The inconvenience of searching reliable lyrics is often annoying so this will be a good new feature.
Free desktop subscribers now only have to tap the mic symbol under the track they are currently playing. This will make lyrics visible whilst listening to music. This makes Deezer the only streaming service to make lyrics available on both phone and mobile.
Deezer’s VP of Product, Benoit Terpereau said, „I’m really pleased that our free users can now enjoy using lyrics on multiple devices”. He then went on to call for users to, „share your screen on your next Zoom call for some extra karaoke fun!” This may not be quite what all of us will be doing straightaway but nonetheless this is a welcome addition to Deezer.
Recently, Deezer added the ability to make lyrics visible whilst using Chromecast. Clearly, the company has been pushing to makes lyrics a more accessible part of its offering for some time. Therefore, these two recent steps are simply a part of this movement and welcome ones at that.
Deezer is also available to use on the Waze app making them a particularly convenient option. Most recently the company revamped Podcasting interface on the app as well. This made its offering much more organized and user friendly. It also made downloading podcasts much easier at the click of the button.
Overall, the recent additions and changes to Deezer have been very much welcomed by users. Making lyrics available on to free desktop users brings everything in line on that front so makes a lot of sense. Hopefully many will make the most of the new feature.
