Verizon and Lenovo announced today that the first 5G laptop is making its way to its network later this week. That would be the Lenovo Flex 5G.
The Lenovo Flex 5G is running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx 5G platform, which is an always-on chipset, so you can just open up the laptop and start working. Combined with Verizon’s 5G network, you’re also going to get some blazing fast speeds.
That’s if you can find Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network though. Which is pretty tough to find – mostly due to how little space mmWave covers.
What specs are included in the Lenovo Flex 5G?
As already mentioned, the Lenovo Flex 5G comes with the Snapdragon 8cx chipset, which is going to give you around 24 hours of battery life – pretty insane right?
Other internals here include 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. It also has a 14-inch 1080p touchscreen, with two USB-C ports, a headphone jack and a fingerprint reader for Windows Hello. It is also powered by Microsoft Windows 10 Pro. Verizon notes that buyers will also get a year of Microsoft Office 365 Personal for free.
The Lenovo Flex 5G is going to cost you $1399, or $58.33 per month for 24 months. It’s not a cheap laptop. Of course, having 5G built-in does definitely drive up the cost. However, with that pretty incredible battery life, this is going to be a great one for those that are always on the go. Hopefully that will happen again once the pandemic is over.
Where can I get Verizon 5G?
Currently, Verizon’s 5G network is only available in 35 markets. And it does not cover the entire market. It’s wise to check out their coverage maps before you purchase the Lenovo Flex 5G. Particularly if you are looking to take advantage of its 5G network.
Verizon is launching a new „5G Ultra Wideband Connected Device Plan” to go along with the Flex 5G. This is going to cost you $30 per month, when you add it to an existing Verizon unlimited plan. Otherwise, it’ll cost you $90/month. This plan gets you unlimited data, hotspot usage and 4K video streaming over 5G. That is a really good deal, actually, considering with 4G LTE, there are a lot more caveats and the unlimited plan isn’t really unlimited.
But again, this all depends on if you can actually connect to 5G. And its 5G UWB network is mostly only available outside.
