YouTube is testing a new feature which would allow one-stop recording and uploading on its app as reported by Android Police. Similar to YouTube stories the clips could not be any longer than 15 seconds but this seems like a promising update. This is designed for creators using the mobile app platform.
It has been a difficult weak for YouTube as the transition from Google Play to YouTube Music has had a number of issues. These include significant delays because of high demand. In addition, many have complained that users will have to pay to play purchased music on the app.
One-Stop Recording and Uploading Being Tested By YouTube
The long-term effects of this type of feature are as yet unknown. Speculation suggests that it could have a big impact if creators are satisfied with the built-in editing tools and UI. If this is the case then we could see a whole new workflow of production through the mobile app.
Currently, the feature is only available to select few users owing to the fact that it is still in testing. YouTube is now gathering feedback from these users to see how the function is received and what can be done to improve it.
Confusion over Length of Clips
The new feature allows creators to create various clips on the app then edit them together and upload easily. It is, however, unclear on the length of these clips. As mentioned, the limit is 15 seconds but we are not sure whether that applies to the whole video or individual clips.
The company itself is not very clear on the subject. The statement that explains the feature fails to make it clear with some ambiguous language present. Android Police believe this is probably limited to 15-second clips rather than the whole video. This is because publishing 15-second videos would not be worthwhile to most YouTube creators.
The limitation is likely to have stemmed from YouTube stories. This feature limits clips to 15 seconds so it is likely developers built the functionality but using this feature as a base. Therefore making the process simpler and in line with what was already there.
YouTube stories are very similar to Instagram stories but with a couple of key differences. Instagram takes you onto a new story if you go over your time limit. However, with YouTube, this same functionality does not appear to be the case.
This is potentially an exciting new feature for YouTube. Pushing people to create content on its mobile app may significantly change the way creators operate. However, this will only be the case if the feature is easy to use and editing tools are satisfactory.
