While phones like the ASUS ROG Phone 3 announced this morning will continue their marketing partnership with Stadia, Samsung is going a different route and will be marketing the Galaxy Note 20 series with Microsoft’s xCloud service.
According to a new report from WinFuture, Samsung will be partnering up with Microsoft to push xCloud as the gaming streaming service of choice for gaming on the go.
The Galaxy Note 20 series will also come with some pretty powerful hardware specs. So it’ll be no slouch for mobile gaming either. The xCloud marketing campaign also makes sense. Considering Samsung announced in February that it had a partnership with Xbox for gaming when it unveiled the Galaxy S20 series.
Galaxy Note 20 series devices will be an „Xbox on the go” thanks to xCloud
The Galaxy Note 20 will no doubt be compatible with Stadia. Google announced early this year that Samsung’s Galaxy S20 series and some of its older devices are compatible.
So it would stand to reason that the Note 20 series would be included sometime after it launches. That being said the phone is reportedly going to be marketed as an Xbox on the go thanks to the xCloud push. With probably no mention of Stadia at all formally in marketing materials.
Microsoft is launching xCloud officially later this year. Specifically in September. And it’ll come as a bundled add-on with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which is $14.99 a month. Though having xCloud won’t increase the Game Pass cost.
Microsoft already offers upwards of 100 games in xCloud in its current state. And while it could add more to that list once it arrives for everyone this Fall, it may take a little longer than that.
Perfectly positioned for cloud gaming on a mobile connection
One of the bigger drawbacks of cloud gaming right now is the limitation in where you can use it.
So far only xCloud allows usability on a mobile connection. Even then it’s not that great if you’re not completely stationary. Mobile data coverage can be spotty, and 5G isn’t really available everywhere. Nor is it really available at its utmost capacity when it comes to speed and reliability.
Once the Galaxy Note 20 series has launched though, 5G will be a little further along. And that paired with the phone’s capability to run on 5G networks as well as the big screen will make it a good option for xCloud.
You aren’t currently required to use an Xbox wireless controller to use xCloud. As there are a few options for Bluetooth controllers which do the job and are officially supported. Such as the Razer Kishi.
However, that doesn’t mean it won’t be that way with the Galaxy Note 20 series. One thing is seemingly certain. Xbox fans are probably going to be pushed towards Samsung’s newest Note.
