The war between Epic Games and Apple rages on and the former company’s latest stunt is to give away prizes in a Fortnite competition.
Painting itself as the good guy being held down by the oppressive Apple regime, Epic Games is looking for any way around the loss of Fortnite on the App Store. It’s upcoming tournament, titled the FreeFortnite Cup, is on-brand for Epic Games attitude towards the whole situation since it began.
Players who enter the tournament will have a chance to win prizes. Some pretty epic ones too. Because all the prizes that Epic is giving away are devices that can still play Fortnite, helping players get around the Apple shutout.
Epic Games Fortnite tournament lets players battle Apple in-game for prizes
Epic Games isn’t being coy about its discontent for Apple, or its decision to remove Fortnite from the App Store.
It’s made plenty of noise that players are going to be left out of the upcoming season. But it certainly doesn’t want players to have to deal with that heartbreaking reality. So it’s created the FreeFortnite Cup. Where players can battle the evil Apple empire and win devices like the OnePlus 8 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.
These are Android devices, so Fortnite can still be installed on them. Albeit not from the Play Store since Google removed the game as well. The prizes also includes PlayStation 4 Pro consoles, Xbox One X consoles, Nintendo Switch consoles, and at least one Alienware gaming laptop.
The tournament will take place on Sunday, August 23
Those looking to participate in the tournament can do so starting this Sunday, August 23.
It will be for one day only, and there are numerous prizes being given away besides the hardware. Such as in-game avatar skins, real life hats, and more. Players will need to score a specific amount of points for each prize tier.
To win the hardware though you’ll have to be one of the top 1,200 players. This is a global competition. Expect some of the already top players in the game to participate. So getting the best prizes won’t be easy.
Rankings in the tournament are based on points. Which are earned by spending time in game, getting eliminations, and getting the victory royale (basically being the last person alive).
Players can compete only as a solo player, and in up to 12 matches. There’s a pretty large list of rules. It might be worth going over them before you hop into the tournament this weekend.
