When Google announced the Pixel 4 last year, and told us that we didn’t need an ultra-wide camera so it put in a telephoto lens, many of us were upset. The ultra-wide camera is a lot more useful than a telephoto, especially with Super-res Zoom being a feature on the Pixel.
But it looks like with the Pixel 5, we’re getting an ultra-wide camera.
It looks like Google is really trying to make the Pixel 5 a really good phone. Giving us an ultra-wide camera, more storage, and a cheaper price tag on the Pixel 5.
Here’s the rest of the leaked specs
Android Central has leaked some more specs of the Pixel 5 as well. With the device sporting a 6-inch OLED 90Hz display. While the Pixel 4a 5G will be slightly larger at 6.2-inches. Though it’s unclear what resolution and refresh rate the Pixel 4a 5G will have. It’s likely it’ll still be a FHD+ OLED panel, at 60Hz.
That means that out of all three Pixel phones this year, none of them are particularly large. This is great news for those that prefer smaller smartphones. The Pixel 5 will be about the same footprint as the Pixel 4a. Thanks to the smaller bezels, Google was able to add .19-inch of screen in that footprint.
It’ll be powered by the Snapdragon 765G, which is what we already knew, really. Especially since it is going to be a 5G device that it going to be less expensive than most other flagships (hence, ruling out the Snapdragon 865 or 865+).
There’s more good news
There is even more good news here. It looks like that rumor of the battery being a 3,080mAh capacity, is false. At least according to the sources Android Central has. They don’t know what the capacity is going to be, yet. But they do say it will „be considerably larger than the Pixel 4”.
It looks like we’re getting some more charging changes too. with 15W wireless charging coming (finally!) and there will also be 5W reverse wireless charging available.
It’s worth noting that these specs are for the Pixel 5, not the Pixel 4a 5G. It’s likely that these changes are how Google is going to justify the price difference between the two. Which is expected to be around $150-$200.
Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 are slated to be announced either next month or early October. So we are truly in the Pixel rumor season, and there’s going to be plenty more coming in the next few weeks. So buckle-up, it’s going to be a fun ride to the Pixel announcement.
