Today, DJI took the wraps off its new smartphone gimbal, the DJI OM 4. Yes, the company is now parting ways with its OSMO lineup. And the new gimbal carries the name OM 4.
DJI has carved a niche for itself to being the gold standard when it comes to gimbals and drones. Now its niche product smartphone product gets a total overhaul.
Notably, not only the name but there are subtle tweaks and a new system that makes this gimbal awesome. There is a new attachment system introduced with the DJI OM 4 gimbal.
Apparently, the mobile gimbal mobile arm snaps itself onto the back of the handset magnetically. This takes the mobility and compatibility of the DJI gimbal to a whole new level.
Though there is not much of an aesthetic change done to the DJI OM 4 gimbal. You will get a similar vibe as the DJI Osmo Mobile. However, the main differentiator is the magnetic attachment.
Point to note is that this is not a new lineup of smartphone gimbal from DJI. In fact, it is the direct successor to the DJI Osmo Mobile 3 smartphone gimbal.
DJI OM 4 includes an updated driver and motor to handle heavy devices
By the looks of it, there is not much of a difference between DJI OM 4 smartphone gimbal and its 2019 counterpart. Though DJI claims that it has installed upgraded motors to handle heavy phones.
Inside the box, DJI has also changed the in-box contents. With DJI Osmo Mobile 3, you get a hardshell instance, a tripod position, and also some other attachments, etc.
But with DJI OM 4, you get some extra things as well. For instance, a cell phone gimbal itself, a tripod stand, hand strap, USB-C cable, magnetic band for your smartphone, magnetic smartphone ring, etc.
The magnetic ring lets you take off your smartphone from the gimbal and use it if there is a call or message that you need to reply to. It attaches to the back of the phone.
This is then clipped to the magnetic arm of the DJI OM 4 simply by slapping it is appropriate to place. You can attach the magnetic smartphone ring to either the back of your phone or the case.
DJI OM 4 also brings updated shooting modes and features
Well, apart from the magnetic arm and attachment, DJI also touts to bring some other features as well. You get upgrade shooting modes, dynamic zoom, spin shot gimbal movement, story mode templates, and much more.
Noticeably, Active Track also gets an upgrade. The upgraded Active Track 3.0 now lets the gimbal follow and differentiate between object, pet, or person. Users can flip between them using the manual joystick.
DJI has also implemented a new gesture control, which is taken straight from the DJI drone lineup. Now, users can use gestures to snap an image or move the gimbal. The DJI OM 4 smartphone gimbal is available for a price of $150.
