Android 11 dropped today for the Pixel, and now OnePlus users can get in on the fun. OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro are getting OxygenOS 11 Beta 1 starting today.
OxygenOS 11 is based on Android 11, and should be rolling out as a stable operating system in a month or so. OnePlus typically does a couple of betas before it rolls it out to everyone.
Here’s how you can upgrade to OxygenOS 11 Beta 1
If you have a OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro, you can upgrade to the OxygenOS 11 Beta 1 right now, by following these instructions.
First off, download the appropriate ROM package for your device from OnePlus’ forum post here.
Next, copy the ROM upgrade package to your phone storage.
Then go to Settings > System > System Updates > click the top right icon > then click on Local Upgrade.
Next you’re going to click on the corresponding installation package. Then click Upgrade.
After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.
Once it has restarted, you will be running OxygenOS 11 and Android 11.
What’s new in OxygenOS 11?
To put it simply, a lot.
This is the biggest redesign to OxygenOS since, well it became OxygenOS.

OnePlus has a much more lengthy changelog available on its forums – for this first beta. But here are some of the highlights.
OxygenOS 11 features a fresh new UI visual design, that makes you more comfortable, and has a ton of optimizations fo details.
It also sports a brand new weather UI, and has dynamic switches between sunrise and sunset. It also optimized the brightness bar display in the status bar.
Game Space has gotten some upgrades too. Like a newly added gaming tools box for convenient switches of Fnatic mode, WeChat, QQ and Screen Recorder all in one place. It also has a new mis-touch prevention feature. You can enable this by swiping down from the top of the screen.
Probably the feature that everyone’s been waiting on is Always-on Ambient Display. Which is finally here in OxygenOS 11. You can set it to work all day, or on a custom schedule (maybe while you’re awake, and let the display rest while you’re asleep). OnePlus has also added 10 new clock styles.
This is a very large update for OxygenOS and it actually takes quite a few cues from Samsung’s own OneUI operating system. Which is both good and bad. OnePlus became popular for sticking with a stock Android approach. But there are also a lot of good things that Samsung has in OneUI. So we’ll have to wait and see how well it turns out.
