A New Oppo Watch Is Coming To Protect Your Heart Health

Oppo is on the verge of launching an entirely new version of its popular Oppo Watch. A smartwatch powered by Wear OS in other regions outside of China.
Today on its official Weibo channel, Oppo teased that a new Oppo Watch was coming, and that it would be launching officially this month.
The main difference with this new version of the device is that adds extra protections for promoting good heart health. Oppo doesn’t specify regions where the new watch will go on sale. However, it does state that it’ll end up launching worldwide.
Consumers shouldn’t get their hopes up that this is officially coming to the US though. As the currently available Wear OS model is not officially in the US either.
The new Oppo Watch will come with an ECG feature
The big feature with this new model is the ECG. Something which is only available on a handful of smartwatches at the moment.
Interestingly none of them are running on Wear OS. So Oppo appears to be the first company that makes a Wear OS smartwatch that will offer an ECG feature to users.
Outside of Wear OS, Samsung, Fitbit, Apple, and Withings have announced or launched watches which carry an ECG. Withings for example announced the Move ECG back during CES 2020. Though it has yet to release the watch.
Meanwhile Samsung has already rolled the feature out to users of its Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2.
The watch will be released worldwide on September 24
Oppo’s Weibo post says that the watch variant will be released worldwide on September 24.
It doesn’t appear to explicitly lock down a time. So it’s possible that the launch could be on September 24 in China, but September 23 in other parts of the world depending on the region and timezone.
Either way the new watch will be showing up sometime Wednesday at the earliest. Or Thursday at the latest.
Other than the ECG, it doesn’t seem like the watch will be any different from what’s already available to consumers. So if you particularly need the ECG feature, then you may want to skip this one.
That is assuming you want to buy the Oppo Watch at all. Also worth considering is that Oppo may charge more for the version of the watch that does come with the ECG. So cost could be another reason to consider getting a different version. Or maybe a different watch entirely.
