Alongside the TCL 10 5G UW, TCL also launched a new affordable tablet called the TAB Family Edition on Verizon. On the hardware front, it is basically the same TCL TAB 8 launched earlier this month. While it lacks the top-notch specifications to compete with the iPad, it will still be an excellent option for many users.
Additionally, it comes with a bumper case and kids related content for free. While the case provides an enhanced grip, there is also a hole to attach a lanyard. Moreover, the case comes with a built-in kickstand option.
TCL TAB Family Edition is exclusive to Verizon
The TCL TAB Family Edition sports an 8-inch LCD display with FHD+ resolution. Under the hood, it comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 mobile platform. The tablet packs 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is also a MicroSD card slot for further expanding the storage on this tablet.
The large 5,550mAh battery on this tablet is rated to last up to 17 hours on regular usage. Users can also use this tablet to charge other devices through the reverse charging feature. However, the OTG cable required for reverse charging needs to be purchased separately.
In terms of optics, the TAB Family Edition features an 8MP autofocus camera on the rear with an LED flash. There is also a 5MP fixed focus front camera for selfies and video calls. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port.
It runs on Android 10 out of the box
Even though Android 11 is already released, the new TAB Family Edition still runs on last year’s Android 10 out of the box. The tablet will receive at least one major OS update and quarterly security patch updates for at least two years. Both the power button and volume rocker are placed on the right edge.
Notably, the power button comes with an embedded fingerprint scanner for secure unlocking. It measures 209.4 x 125.2 x 8.55 mm and weighs 325g. The TCL TAB Family Edition is exclusively available from Verizon for $199.99 upfront or $8.33 per month over a 24-month period.
At this price, it is one of the most affordable LTE-enabled tablets available in the market. Verizon will also offer Smart Family Basic for free for 3 months with the purchase of this tablet. Users also get 1-year access to Toca Life World and Sago Mini World for free.
