Activision Blizzard Wants To Bring All Franchises To Mobile

Activision Blizzard has grand plans for mobile devices leading into the new year and beyond.
According to the company’s President and COO, Daniel Alegre, the plan is to bring all of the franchises under the Activision Blizzard umbrella to mobile devices. Right now there’s Call Of Duty: Mobile. Which has been a massive, massive hit for the company since its October 1 launch in 2019.
Crash Bandicoot: On The Run is also on its way to mobile in the near future. Then there’s Hearthstone, Blizzard’s wildly popular card game that is based on the World Of Warcraft franchise and has been going strong on mobile for years now.
That still leaves three major properties from Blizzard in particular that have yet to cross the gaming platform divide and land on smartphones. Which includes Diablo, Starcraft, and Overwatch.
Diablo is being worked on in the form of Diablo: Immortal. Which is slated to enter external testing in the very near future. Starcraft and Overwatch haven’t been discussed in a mobile sense, but there’s always a possibility since both of these are big properties for Blizzard.
As for Activision, it has plenty of franchises under its name as well. Though it has yet to specifically mention any of them by name in regards to mobile release plans.
Activision Blizzard wants to introduce all its franchises to mobile „over time”
This isn’t going to be an immediate thing. You won’t see every single major franchise hit mobile devices in the next couple of years.
The plan according to Alegre is to introduce the franchises to mobile devices over time. Which probably means that over a series of the next few years at least, we should start to see some games based on the more popular franchises trickle in. Or at least mentioned in passing with regards to development.
Think of Call Of Duty: Mobile as an experiment to see how good of an idea it would be to test the mobile waters. As it turns out, it was a very good idea. And Activision Blizzard has no plans of stopping at just one major franchise.
Like it or not, mobile is part of the plan now
Mobile is a very successful platform for games. As the last few years have shown. So it was only a matter of time before Activision Blizzard tested the waters.
That being said, that doesn’t mean the quality of games is going to be watered down. Nor does it mean the company will stop making console and PC games. And if all of them can be as quality and as popular as Call Of Duty: Mobile has been, then there’s hope that this was a smart long-term move.
