Today, Google announced the final Pixel Feature Drop of the year, with mostly new features coming to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 lineup. But there is one new feature coming to the 5G Pixels (as well as select Android smartphones). And that is The Mandalorian AR experience. Since season 2 of The Mandalorian is now out on Disney+, this makes perfect sense.
Google, Disney and Lucasfilm worked together, to launch this AR experience. It is an augmented reality app for the 5G Google Pixel devices, available on the Google Play Store right now. Allowing you to customize your home screen with new Mandalorian wallpapers. Who can resist the Baby Yoda anyways?
Pixel 5 features coming to older Google Pixel smartphones
A number of the features announced for the Pixel 5 back in late-September, are finally making their way to older Pixel devices. These are going to be available for the Pixel 3 and later. So even those with two-year old phones are getting some new features.
The new „Hold for me” from Google Assistant is coming to Pixel 3 and later devices. Allowing the Google Assistant to sit on hold for you, instead of you having to listen to that terrible hold music.
Extreme Battery Saver is also coming to older Pixel devices. This is actually going to be really useful on the Pixel 4, seeing as the battery life on that one was absolutely horrendous.
Users will also be able to watch content together over Google Duo. So you can watch the Christmas slate of NBA games, without gathering and possibly spreading COVID-19.
Finally, the new redesigned photo editor in Google Photos is going to be rolling out to the Pixel 3 and later as well. Which offers improved tools for editing your photos.
This Pixel Feature Drop is going to roll out with the latest security update, also announced by Google today. And that should be available on your Pixel device starting today. It’ll be a slow, staged rollout, so you may not get it right away. But it is on its way!
