Fossil is reportedly working on the Gen 6 smartwatch as the successor to the popular Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch. Now, a new Fossil smartwatch with the model number C1NF1 has received FCC certification. As per the listing, the yet-to-be-launched Fossil smartwatch will come with LTE support.
Over the last couple of years, Fossil has become the largest manufacturer of Wear OS-powered smartwatches. While there are Wear OS smartwatches with LTE support available in the market, none of them are from Fossil. Going by the FCC listing, Fossil will soon debut its first-ever LTE-enabled smartwatch.
Upcoming Fossil smartwatch to launch with LTE support
Just like other LTE-enabled smartwatches, this new Fossil smartwatch should also come with eSIM support. Additionally, it will also support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. With NFC support, this new smartwatch can be used to make contactless payments using the Google Pay service.
While there is no official confirmation, the upcoming Fossil smartwatch is expected to launch under the all-new Gen 6 series. The same C1NF1 smartwatch received Bluetooth certification back in July this year. Moreover, the Bluetooth SIG website listed a total of three new smartwatches at that time.
The C1NF1, C1CF1, and C1EF1 smartwatches will launch with Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. As of now, the details on the FCC listing are vague. However, the images confirm the upcoming smartwatch will continue featuring the same circular display as seen on previous Fossil smartwatches.
These new smartwatches may feature the older Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip.
Going by the earlier leaks, Fossil might be sticking with the same old Snapdragon Wear 3100 rather than using the newly launched Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset. While the Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered Fossil Gen 5 smartwatches offer decent performance, the new-gen chipset should make these new smartwatches perform even better.
The recently launched Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 is the first-ever smartwatch to launch with the Snapdragon Wear 4100 SoC. According to Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon Wear 4100 chipset will offer up to 85 percent faster performance and up to 25 percent less power consumption than its predecessor.
While the LTE connection will certainly drain the smartwatches faster, the latest chipset might allow them to last a bit longer. Apart from selling Fossil-branded smartwatches, the company sells Wear OS-powered smartwatches under the Skagen and Diesel brands.
The current-gen Fossil Gen 5 and Gen 5E smartwatches are currently retailing for $199 and $169 respectively. Both of these smartwatches come in several different color options. There are also several strap choices available in various colors and materials.
