Android 12 Could Introduce This Massive Lock Screen Clock

Android 12 is shaping up to potentially introduce some significant design changes, like a massive new lock screen clock that should be nearly impossible for anyone to miss.
Among other changes, the first developer preview which released earlier this week, seems to hint at some possible new theme options beyond the light and dark modes that you can enable currently. There’s also the possibility that Google is planning to add widget stacks to the home screen.
Which would be a fairly big improvement to widgets in general. And allow users to better utilize the space they have on the home screen. Think about it. Widget stacks that let you swipe between multiple widgets that are sitting in the same spot. Ultimately letting you fit more widgets on a single home screen. As for the lock screen clock, visually it’s a lot bigger than it is now. It’s also not something that is changed by default.
The huge lock screen clock in Android 12 has to be manually enabled
As pointed out by 9To5Google, the larger clock is not something that is enabled by simply installing the Android 12 developer preview.
Instead it’s something that feels more like a hidden design change. Something that Google is experimenting with and has not yet decided to push out to users who want to install the new software.
Having said that, the larger clock is there, but it has to be manually enabled before any changes actually take place. This is what signifies a possibility that Google may pull away from this feature in later versions of Android 12.
And as always with developer previews, not everything ends up in a final release that gets pushed to users in a stable build. Google could even choose to wipe the larger clock off the face of the map in the second developer preview.
The clock shrinks down when you get notifications
You might think that a massive lock screen clock would take up too much space. Whether or not it does is a subjective thing. But that’s neither here nor there.
Because it’s size shrinks down once you get notifications. The only time it stays as large as it is upon enabling it, is when the lock screen is blank. Meaning no notifications are present. The moment notifications come in, the size of the clock shrinks down and moves off to the right and more towards the top.
So really it doesn’t end up in the way of anything. Of course none of this will matter if it isn’t a feature that sticks around.
