The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has appeared in a benchmark listing. The US variant of the upcoming foldable recently showed up on Geekbench to confirm a few rumors. This is the first benchmark appearance of the device, which isn’t expected to break cover until the second half of this year.
The Geekbench entry lists the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with the model number SM-F946U. The “U” at the end tells us that it’s the US variant of the foldable. Samsung uses the suffix “B” for the global variant, while the South Korean version uses the identifier “N”. This listing confirms three key details about the new foldable. Firstly, it will run Android 13 out of the box. Samsung may introduce a new version of its One UI skin (possibly One UI 5.1.1) with the Galaxy Z Fold 5, but you surely won’t get Android 14 from day one. It will arrive as an update a few months later.
Next, we have confirmation that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will use the same Qualcomm processor that powers the Galaxy S23 series. It’s an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset designed exclusively for Samsung devices. While the regular version has its prime CPU core clocked at a maximum speed of 3.2GHz, the Galaxy version goes up to 3.36GHz. It gets a higher-clocked GPU as well. The Korean firm reportedly plans to extend this partnership with Qualcomm for at least one more year.
Finally, Geekbench reveals that Samsung will offer the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with 12GB of RAM in the US. If history is any indication, there might not be any other RAM variant anywhere. Storage options should include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB, though the latter option may be limited to select markets. The new foldable should feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage chips for faster data transfer. That’s all we get to know about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 today. You can expect more leaks and rumors about the foldable in the coming months.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will debut in the second half of 2023
There’s still plenty of time left for the Galaxy Z Fold 5’s launch. The new Samsung foldable will likely debut in August or September this year. It will arrive alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 5, and probably a few wearable devices too. Rumors are that both new foldables will use a redesigned hinge that allows them to fold without a gap in the middle. It also helps reduce the display crease. The Flip model will reportedly get a bigger cover display as well. We will keep you posted with all the latest information about the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
