Quake II is rumored to be getting a remaster

QuakeCon is this week and a rumor says id Software is poised to show off a pretty exciting upcoming game – a remaster of Quake II. Now keep in mind this is just a rumor for now and id Software hasn’t confirmed this itself.
However, details about the rumor come from Dealabs Magazine’s billbil-kun (via engadget), which is said to have a reliable track record for gaming-related leaks. In the initial rumor report, billbil-kun mentions a Quake II remaster being referenced in evaluation documents from the ESRB and PEGI organizations. The ESRB and PEGI organizations of course, are the rating systems for games in the US and Europe respectively.
According to billbil-kun, the game is referred to as simply Quake II, though the documents do also mention “enhanced” in some of the wording. This indicates that Quake II is getting the same remastered treatment as the original game which came out a couple of years ago. This was also just called “Quake” but in its description it’s referenced as an enhanced version with some graphical upgrades. Such as HD textures and support for widescreen resolutions.
An enhanced version of Quake II could come with similar visual upgrades to make it more playable on modern systems.
A Quake II remaster will be revealed during QuakeCon 2023
If a Quake II remastered version is coming, QuakeCon would be the likely place to do it. Especially since the event this year is taking place in-person. This is the first in-person event since the pandemic so it’ll be a pretty big deal. And it sets the perfect stage for the reveal of the upcoming game.
Further, billbil-kun mentions the likely reveal date. Which could be either the night of August 10 or the morning of August 11. Which means we could be seeing an announcement late Thursday or sometime early Friday. That isn’t where details stop though. This new enhanced version of Quake II should be available for basically all current platforms. Which includes PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It could also see a potential Game Pass release.
As with the Quake enhanced version, this new Quake II should support some of the same features. Including local multiplayer on consoles, as well as online multiplayer on all platforms. The post Quake II is rumored to be getting a remaster appeared first on Android Headlines.
