Google Drive's New AI Feature Summarizes Changes in Shared Files

Google continues to improve the experience of Google Drive users by adding new AI-powered features. Recently, the search titan added an ability that allows Google Drive’s Gemini side panel to offer summaries and answer questions about the content of videos. Google has now introduced a new Gemini-backed feature called ‘Catch me up’ in Google Drive.

“Catch me up” summarize changes in your Google Drive shared files

Google Drive’s latest Gemini AI chatbot-powered Catch me up functionality is capable of summarizing any changes made by others to your shared files since you last checked them. The feature automatically identifies and provides a high-level overview of changes, including edits and comments, in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides since the last time you opened them. It works across multiple files and within specific documents.

Essentially, Gemini’s new feature in Google Drive now identifies relevant files that have changed since the user last viewed them and provides an overview of these changes. In a blog post, Google said, “While this list isn’t meant to be comprehensive, it aims to highlight changes that may be helpful and important.”

Google Drive’s new “Catch me up” feature will come in handy if you frequently work together with colleagues on documents, spreadsheets, and other shared files. Google’s productivity programs already offer the ability to track changes in a file via the version history page. However, the new Gemini-backed functionality offers a quicker way to speed up changes and feedback from your colleagues or contributors.

Rolling out to eligible Google Workspace and One AI Premium subscribers

Google Drive’s latest Gemini-powered feature is currently available only in English. Google has made it available for Google Workspace users with a Business Standard or Plus plan, Enterprise Standard or Plus plan, Gemini Education or Premium add-on, and Google One AI Premium subscription.

The company started rolling out the new feature to eligible Google Workspace consumers on June 15. However, it could take the functionality up to 15 days to appear for all users.
