Up until recently, the OPPO Find N5 was the thinnest foldable smartphone out there. The HONOR Magic V5 trumped it by 0.1mm, and Samsung’s new foldable has entered the chat, too. Samsung managed to bring the Galaxy Z Fold 7 on the Find N5’s level as far as thinness goes. In this article, we’ll compare those two phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5 specs.
These are both book-style foldables, but they are quite different despite that fact. Yes, they’re very similar in terms of thickness, but are different in other ways. We’ll first list the specs of both smartphones and will then move to compare them across a number of other categories. We will be comparing their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Design
Both of these phones are made out of metal and glass. Both of them have glass backplates on the back. The Find N5 also comes in a vegan leather version, but that model is exclusive to China. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 does have sharper corners in comparison. Both smartphones include a centered display camera hole on the main display. They also have a display camera hole on their main displays, but in different spots.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a couple of millimeters shorter and narrower in comparison, and it has smaller main and cover displays. The two phones are the same in terms of thickness, both in folded and unfolded forms. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 14 grams lighter. Do note that it has a much smaller battery on the inside, though, so that’s the main reason why. Samsung has decided to stick with a Li-Po battery instead of using a silicon-carbon unit. We’ll talk more about batteries later.
Both smartphones have a flat backplate and a flat frame, too. The power/lock and volume up and down buttons sit on the right-hand side of both smartphones. The Find N5 also has an alert slider on that side when folded, but it’s on the left side when unfolded. Neither phone is particularly grippy, but due to their size and thinness, they’re not particularly difficult to handle. We’ve used devices that are far more slippery.
You’ll notice entirely different camera setups on the back. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has three vertically aligned cameras in the top-left corner. They’re placed on top of a pill-shaped camera island. The OPPO Find N5 has a round camera island, which sits in the upper portion of its backplate. It’s centered. There are three cameras placed on the inside. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is IP48 certified for water and dust resistance. The OPPO Find N5, on the other hand, comes with an IPX8/IPX9 certification.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 features an 8-inch Foldable Dyamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display. That panel ahs a resolution of 2184 x 1968, and it supports HDR10+ content. Its refresh rate is adaptive (1-120Hz), while the peak brightness this display offers is 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90% here. The cover display measures 6.5 inches, and it’s a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. The resolution is 2520 x 1080 pixels, and its refresh rate is also adaptive (1-120Hz). The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protects this display, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7
The OPPO Find N5, on the other hand, has an 8.12-inch Foldable LTPO OLED panel. That display can project up to 1 billion colors, and Dolby Vision is supported. HDR10+ is also supported, as is HDR Vivid. The refresh rate is adaptive (1-120Hz), while the peak brightness is 2,100 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%, while the resolution is 2480 x 2248 pixels. The cover display measures 6.62 inches, and it’s an LTPO OLED panel. It supports up to 1 billion colors, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR Vivid. That display has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and its peak brightness is 2,450 nits. The resolution here is 2616 x 1140, while the Nanocrystal Glass protects this panel.
All four of these displays are great, actually. They’re not only vivid, but have great viewing angles too, and the touch response is really good. They’re also more than bright enough. The crease control is good on both main displays, actually, both of them use waterdrop hinges. All four displays also support a high refresh rate. We really don’t have complaints on either of these displays, both companies did a great job.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite (7-core version) fuels the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. That is Qualcomm’s most powerful chip, a 3nm processor. That chip is paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM in the OPPO Find N5. The phone uses UFS 4.0 flash storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, on the other hand, is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, an overclocked version of the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. It is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM inside the Galaxy Z Fold 7. UFS 4.0 flash storage is used here too. Neither phone supports storage expansion.
The OPPO Find N5 offered outstanding performance for us. We’ve been using it actively since launch, and have had no issues with it whatsoever. It does have one less core than the original Snapdragon 8 Elite, but that’s not something we’ve noticed. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 offered great performance at first glance, but we haven’t reviewed it just yet. We’re in the process of doing so, so you’ll get more information in our full review.
Games were not a problem for the OPPO Find N5, not at all. We’ve tried running some of the most demanding titles on the phone, and it handled those without a problem. We’re expecting to see something similar from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 too, actually. The phone has all the specs it needs to offer great gaming performance. It remains to be seen will it be good at handling the heat, though.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Battery
There is a 4,400mAh Li-Po battery inside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The OPPO Find N5, on the other hand, includes a 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery. That silicon-carbon battery tech allowed OPPO to pack in more capacity in less physical battery size than what Samsung was able to do with the Li-Po battery. A 1,200mAh difference in battery capacity is actually quite significant.
The OPPO Find N5 actually offers great battery life, it has been like that since launch. The initial impressions of the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s battery life are good, and surprising for that battery size, but the phone still flies under the Find N5. The OPPO Find N5 can still pull out 1+ hour more of screen-on time in comparison, even 2+ more, depending on the day. We’ll have more information in our full review after we’ve put the Galaxy Z Fold 7 through its paces.
The OPPO Find N5 completely obliterates the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the charging department, though. It supports 80W wired, 50W wireless, and reverse wired charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. OPPO’s handset can be fully charged in around 50 minutes, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 takes around an hour and 25 minutes to get there. The Find N5 also ships with a charger in the box, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs OPPO Find N5: Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has three cameras on the back. A 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide snapper (120-degree FoV). The third and last camera on the back is a 10-megapixel telephoto unit (3x optical zoom). Samsung opted not to improve the telephoto camera, but the main one got a huge update compared to the Fold 6.
OPPO Find N5
The OPPO Find N5, on the other hand, also has three cameras on the back. A 50-megapixel main snapper (1/1.56-inch sensor size) is backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/4.0-inch sensor size, 116-degree FoV). The last camera on the back is a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (1/2.75-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom).
OPPO actually degraded cameras compared to the Find N3, unfortunately. Well, at least based on the hardware we’re seeing and our experience with both devices. We’re still reviewing the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but it seems like its main and ultrawide cameras trump what the OPPO Find N5 has to offer (in both daylight and nighttime). The Find N5, however, still has the edge when it comes to zoom shots. It has a rather capable periscope telephoto camera, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is stuck with a regular telephoto unit that is… well, just okay.
Audio
Both of these smartphones have stereo speakers. They both sound good, though the Fold 7’s did sound a bit louder to us at first. The difference is not big, but we’ll have to do some further testing to be sure. Check out the full review once it drops.
Neither phone has an audio jack. Instead, you can hook up your wired headphones to their Type-C ports. Alternatively, both phones do support Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless audio connectivity.
