With the large-scale match types like Conquest in Battlefield 6, it’s easy to forget that those modes aren’t Battle Royale, but that doesn’t mean the game won’t get such a mode. EA confirmed on September 10 that Battlefield 6 is getting a Battle Royale mode, and it’ll be testing the mode as part of Battlefield Labs this week.
Battlefield Labs is EA and Battlefield Studios’ testing grounds for Battlefield games going forward. It works with the community to help shape the game as it goes through the development process. Tweaking and making changes based on user feedback from the tests. To be a part of Battlefield Labs, you had to have signed up to participate while it was still accepting applicants. Even then, applying wasn’t a guarantee that you would be selected. For the lucky few who were selected, you will get your first taste of Battlefield’s Battle Royale mode soon.
Battle Royale in Battlefield 6 will have Battlefield at its core
What exactly does this mean? According to EA, the broadest way of explaining it is that it’ll be a Battle Royale mode with the unique Battlefield DNA. The “core Battlefield pillars” of class-based squadplay, tactical destruction, and vehicle combat will all be woven throughout the fabric of this mode.
More specifically, EA lays out what to expect with a list of key elements. First up is a brand-new map that was designed specifically for the Battle Royale mode and experience. EA says it has multiple tactical points of interest, and players can expect it to be pretty huge.
In addition to the unique map, the Battle Royale mode will also feature the tactical destruction that fans have loved from the franchise. This was present everywhere in the beta. For this mode, EA says players will be able to create pathways through walls and even topple buildings. Vehicles will be available as well to provide multiple modes of transport between points. Plus, players will have more than a few options for keeping their teammates up and in the fight. Thanks to the redeploys and the support class revives.
The mode will have 100 players split up into four-man squads
Unlike Conquest, which has a cap of 64 players, the Battle Royale mode will have 100 players. Those 100 players will be split up into 25 4-person squads. The overall goal is to be the last squad standing. Kind of like Warzone. You can read more about the upcoming mode in EA’s official blog post. Battlefield 6 will launch on October 10 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
