The battery on Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is swelling, and that’s a big problem for more than a few reasons. None of which is good for the company. Samsung has had its issues with batteries before. Although the swollen battery on a Galaxy Ring smart ring is hardly the same as a Galaxy Note 7 battery exploding and setting fires to things, swollen batteries can lead to the same results.
So, this is an issue that demands to be taken seriously. In fact, that’s exactly what happened with the user who posted about this problem. @ZoneofTech on X shared their experience with the ring and its swollen battery with a collection of photos. In the first few, it’s a little harder to see the swollen battery. However, once the ring is off, you can clearly see where the parts of the battery have swelled up. Naturally, ZoneofTech was immediately worried about what could happen. As it turns out, the airline of the flight he was about to hop onto was also worried. They denied him entry to the plane.
The Galaxy Ring battery started swelling while it was being worn
The bigger part of the issue with this happening is that it started while it was on the user’s finger. Taking into consideration the kinds of damage a swollen battery could do, imagine the safety risk here. Luckily, ZoneofTech says that they were able to get the ring off. However, not before a trip to the hospital.
After being denied entry to the plane, they were taken to the hospital as an emergency, where they had the ring removed. As they weren’t able to get it off themselves. This makes it much easier to see the swollen parts of the battery, now that you can see the inside of it.
It doesn’t look like there was any lasting damage, but ZoneofTech does mention that it did hurt before they had the ring removed. So, it’s a good thing that they had it taken off before anything got worse. Hopefully, Samsung addresses this issue quickly and has a plan in place to deal with it going forward.
