Subscribers of YouTube TV should finally breathe easy, as NBC Universal’s lineup isn’t going anywhere. Google and NBC have finally struck a fresh multi-year deal. This will ensure that NBC’s sports coverage, hit shows, and news content remain available on the platform. The agreement follows tense negotiations earlier this year, when NBC content nearly disappeared from YouTube TV due to disputes over pricing and distribution.
Google signs a deal with NBC to keep its content alive on YouTube TV
The renewed deal, or partnership, means the subscribers of YouTube TV will get continued access to NBC Universal’s extensive content portfolio. All the partner titles, including NBC, Telemundo, Bravo, CNBC, Golf Channel, E!, Oxygen True Crime, MSNBC, USA Network, Syfy, and Universo, will remain available.
NBC is also reviving its NBC Sports Network later this year. This means YouTube TV subscribers will now get more sports coverage alongside NBC’s broadcast. Peacock will additionally roll out as an optional add-on via YouTube Primetime Channels in the following months. The deal also extends Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s presence on Google TV and YouTube TV. “This agreement builds on our long-standing partnership with NBC, making sure viewers can access content the way they want,” said Justin Connolly, YouTube’s Global Head of Media & Sports.
NBC fans can finally rejoice, but Univision fans remain disappointed
The deal between NBC and Google TV does mark a major win. However, Google has failed to reach a similar deal with Univision. The Spanish-language media giant had earlier accused YouTube TV of planning to shift its channel to “premium” plans. This would charge its viewers an additional amount of $15 a month. Google, on the other hand, claims that Univision’s content has failed to justify the demand. And therefore, it had to plan this move.
