Discord Confirms Data Breach After Vendor Hack—Emails and IDs Exposed

Discord has confirmed a data breach after one of its third-party support providers fell victim to a ransomware attack. The social media giant has said that the breach led to the data exposure of limited users. An investigation is underway, and the authorities have been notified. Affected users are said to be informed directly via an official email.

Discord’s latest data breach

The cyberattack reportedly took place on September 20, 2025. This was the date when hackers gained access to the internal data of Discord via one of its third-party vendors. Discord, while addressing the data breach, has confirmed that the passwords and authentication data of the users are safe. The breach has not affected the platform’s main servers or the infrastructure.

As per the statement made by Discord, the attackers accessed data linked to users who had interacted with the customer support or Trust & Safety items. The exposed data includes names, email addresses, usernames, billing info (last four digits of the card), and IP addresses. Some users’ government-issued ID details and customer support chats are also exposed.

In addition to the aforementioned data, the attackers were able to get their hands on limited corporate materials, such as internal documents or presentation files. To give a short relief, Discord confirmed that no payment details (Advanced), CVV codes, and the general chats are safe.

Discord also adds that it is working with the forensic team to determine the full extent of the data breach and to strengthen defense systems. Law enforcement agencies have been notified and they are working to find the culprits behind the breach. Further, affected users will receive an email with details of what information may have been accessed.
