Participate in the 2026 State of Open Source Survey

The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is once again partnering with Perforce OpenLogic & Zend, in collaboration with the Eclipse Foundation, for the 2026 State of Open Source Survey, the industry’s most comprehensive study of global Open Source adoption trends.

Now in its fifth year, this annual survey captures how organizations across industries are using, supporting, and scaling Open Source software and how they’re addressing challenges such as AI integration, licensing, compliance, and security.

Results from 2025

The 2025 State of Open Source Report revealed powerful insights into how Open Source continues to evolve across industries and technologies:

96% of organizations reported increasing or maintaining their use of Open Source.

Cost efficiency remained the top driver of adoption.

Security and compliance were cited as persistent pain points.

Nearly half of organizations managing Big Data platforms reported low confidence in their ability to do so effectively.

A surprising 26% of enterprises continued using end-of-life CentOS, highlighting gaps in migration planning and lifecycle management.

These findings demonstrate that while Open Source adoption remains strong, organizations are facing new complexities in managing risk, security, and talent.

Take the 2026 survey

The 2026 survey builds on these themes, diving deeper into AI/ML tooling, cloud-native ecosystems, data technologies, and Open Source governance.

Your experiences and insights will help shape the 2026 State of Open Source Report, coming in Spring 2026. Your input helps build a more accurate picture of how Open Source is used, governed, and supported worldwide. This year, your collaboration also helps fund OSI’s mission to champion software freedom: Perforce will donate to the OSI and the Eclipse Foundation for every valid survey response received. It only takes about 10 minutes to complete the survey.
