YouTube Outlines Demonetization Strategy Against 'Trashy' AI Content

YouTube is undoubtedly the most popular video streaming platform worldwide. It’s a go-to video platform for most users. Google periodically updates the plaform’s regulatory policy to ensure that authentic and human content is posted. It recently rolled out a new update to its monetization policy, which was wrongly interpreted by some. To clarify the situation, YouTube has now detailed its policy to demonetize AI content.

YouTube says that they have always promoted original content

The new monetization policy update by YouTube received a huge backlash from the creators. This was primarily because of the fact was it was “wrongly interpreted by some“. To detail things, YouTube has officially responded to the policy, saying that “YouTube has always required creators to upload ‘original’ and ‘authentic’ content.”

It says that the new update to the policy aims to better identify mass-produced and repetitive content. The update reflects the definition of ‘inauthentic‘ content from today’s perspective.

The latest policy update is just another ‘minor’ update per the official

The editorial head of YouTube, Rene Ritchie, has uploaded a video detailing the new policy to demonetize AI content. As per him, the changes made to the monetization policy on July 15th are a ‘minor’ update. The original policy has always required the creators to make original content and avoid unoriginal content.

He further adds that inauthentic content, as explained in the policy, has always been ineligible for monetization and is considered spam. So, in a nutshell, all he wants to say is that the update does not add any significant restrictions and that the platform has always been strict against unoriginal content.

YouTube has not yet released the official update policy text. And hence, we don’t know what type of content falls under ‘unoriginal’ content. It however says that the creators using AI to ‘improve’ the content will be eligible for monetization.1
