In recent weeks, there’s been a lot of talk about Google Home. However, it hasn’t been for good reasons. Many users were struggling with their smart home setup, reporting voice commands not working properly—or not working at all—among other issues. Recently, Google acknowledged the situation and promised a solution. Now, the long-awaited fix for Google Home’s voice commands issues is finally rolling out.
Issues with Google Home voice commands were particularly impacting light control. If your “Assistant” suddenly stopped obeying commands for specific bulbs or rooms, you were definitely not alone.
Google is sending a fix to light voice commands on its Home platform
Over the past week or so, many Google Home users reported widespread problems. While some glitches appeared within the Google Home app itself, the bigger headache stemmed from voice commands failing. Users found that broad commands like “turn off all lights” might still work, but trying to control a single light or all lights in a particular room often led to frustration. These issues sparked numerous complaints across Reddit threads and Google’s own Nest forums.
Google has now confirmed on Reddit that a solution is actively rolling out. A company statement noted that they’ve “started to roll out a fix for the issue impacting the ability to target and control some lights using voice commands.” It’s noteworthy that some users might still experience lingering problems. Google is directing those affected individuals to a feedback page to help them refine the solution further.
Potential lawsuit against Google was on the table
The situation even escalated to the point where a US law firm, Kaplan Gore, announced it was investigating a potential class-action lawsuit against Google. The firm cited numerous reports of broken functionality. They argued that Google was failing to deliver the promised smooth smart home experience. They claimed that these issues were growing in scale and frequency nationwide, despite the devices previously working fine.
Hopefully, with this fix now in motion, these frustrating smart home woes seem to be a thing of the past for all Google Home users.
