Google Photos May Soon Get AI-Powered "Help Me Edit" Feature

Google has been actively stuffing AI features into its app and services for some time now. If you’ve used Google Photos in recent months, you must have seen some AI features added to the app. Well, it seems Google isn’t done stuffing AI into the Photos app yet, as a new report suggests that it’ll soon get a new “Help me edit” feature.

Folks over at Android Authority first spotted the feature while digging through the Google Photos app version 7.38. The new outlet discovered some codes pointing towards the “Help me edit” feature. While the outlet was unable to enable it, a Telegram user, Zach Allen, got it working.

You can check an early look to “Help me edit” in the screenshots attached below. For the uninitiated, Google Photos already offers a slew of AI-powered photo-editing features. These include tools such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and Reimagine.

While the new feature has a different name, it essentially works as “Reimagine.” However, there’s a major difference. Unlike Reimagine, which lets you describe edits and alter images using short prompts, “Help me edit” works around longer, more descriptive prompts. Think of it as asking Gemini AI to help you with a certain task where you input detailed instructions. The editing experience is similar to editing in the Gemini app itself and not just Google Photos.

No info about the roll out date yet

For now, there’s no word on if or when Google will roll out the “Help me edit” feature to the Photos app. Once available, the feature will be a lifesaver for those who always mess up taking a perfect shot and scratch their head around editing.
