Samsung Premieres Micro RGB Display Tech in Massive 115-inch TV

Samsung today marked a significant advancement in display technology by introducing the a Micro RGB TV. The South Korean tech giant is touting the new product as the world’s first display to feature a micro-scale RGB LED backlight behind a massive 115-inch screen panel. Samsung claims the breakthrough screen sets a new standard for color accuracy, contrast, and immersive viewing in the ultra-premium TV market.

Samsung’s 115-inch Micro RGB TV features 4K resolution and Micro RGB HDR+ support. The TV boasts Samsung’s 4K AI Upscaling Pro, which upgrades low-quality content to near 4K quality. Furthermore, the brand has loaded the TV with a Micro RGB AI engine, which analyzes every frame in real time and then optimizes the color output automatically.

Thanks to this tech, the content on the TV appears more lifelike and richer in colors. At the core of the new television screen is the brand’s proprietary Micro RGB tech, which places tiny red, green, and blue LEDs (smaller than 100µm) behind an LCD layer. This provides a granular control over the light and color output across the entire screen.

Samsung emphasizes the new TV’s screen’s color fidelity with a functionality dubbed Micro RGB Precision Color. The brand mentioned that this technology achieves 100% color coverage of the BT.2020 color space.

Automatic gaming mode and advanced security features

Samsung has also loaded the new Micro RGB TV with a built-in auto low latency mode (ALLM) for gamers. Furthermore, it has up to a 144Hz variable refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Dynamic Black Equalizer, Mini Map Zoom, Samsung Gaming Hub, and Super Ultra Wide Game View features. Additionally, the TV can change the colors of compatible Philips Hue lights based on the content on the screen to deliver an enhanced gaming experience.

Samsung’s Tizen Smart TV OS powers the new television, and the brand is offering seven years of operating system updates. The company has also equipped the TV with a smarter Bixby voice assistant and Samsung Knox, an industry-leading security solution. Other highlights include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.3, four HDMI ports, an Ethernet port, Dolby Atmos, and 70W speakers.

Coming to the pricing, Samsung has priced the 115-inch Micro RGB TV at 44.9 million won, which roughly translates to $32,300. The company has already started selling the TV in its home market and will launch it in the US very soon. In other major markets, Samsung will introduce the new TV in different screen sizes later this year.
