The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is one of the few devices that ships with the stable One UI 8. However, even the stable software isn’t perfect. Currently, a strange glitch is letting owners run up to three apps simultaneously on the main display. Although Samsung boasts of the multitasking capabilities of its foldable, it officially does not reach this level. It’s a happy accident that’s quickly getting a lot of attention from the foldable phone community.

This “helpful bug,” as some are calling it, was first discovered by a Reddit user and has since been confirmed by others. To trigger it, you need to open two apps in the standard split-screen view. Then, you simply open and immediately exit the Edge Panel settings. This seems to confuse the system, making it “forget” it’s in a two-app layout. This results in the OS allowing a third app to be added to the side.

This is big news for fans of foldable phones and multitaskers. For a long time, rivals like the OnePlus Open have been praised for their “Open Canvas” feature. If you’re not aware, the latter allows for this kind of three-app multitasking. Meanwhile, Samsung has only partially adopted this with the 90:10 split in One UI 8. However, this bug hints that a more robust feature may be in the works, hidden just beneath the surface. At least we now know that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is capable of running 3 apps simultaneously on the screen.
The Good, the bad, and the future
Since this is an unintended bug and not a polished feature, it doesn’t work perfectly. Users have noted that resizing the Windows app can be tricky. Additionally, the overall experience is far from flawless. It’s also important to remember that Samsung has yet to comment on the issue. So, it’s unclear if they’ll patch it out in an upcoming update or work to refine it into a real, polished feature.
The very fact that this is even possible, however, is a strong signal that Samsung has the potential to introduce a true “Open Canvas”-style feature in a future One UI update. The core functionality seems to be there, suggesting that with a few tweaks and refinements, it could become a standard part of the software. For now, it is interesting to at least think about the possibility. Let’s hope Samsung decides to turn this Galaxy Z Fold 7 “multitasking bug” into a proper feature.
