Sony 200MP Camera Sensor Might Power OPPO & Samsung Flagships

It looks like the world of smartphone cameras might be about to get a major shake-up. New whispers are making the rounds, and they all point to Sony potentially joining the 200MP camera club for flagship phones. Furthermore, its first customers would be brands as big as OPPO and Samsung.

We recently saw a leak with details about the camera of the upcoming OPPO Find X9 Ultra. The premium devices would boast a powerful 200MP main camera. That is a massive jump in resolution from the 50MP sensor in its predecessor. But the interesting tidbit was not just the sheer number of megapixels. The sensor in question would have a substantial 1/1.1″ size, offering a great balance of resolution and low-light performance. This large sensor dimension is crucial for capturing more light and finer details.

OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Ultra would share same Sony 200MP camera sensor

However, there’s one detail that could be even more interesting. The leak suggested that this 200MP camera sensor would be manufactured by none other than Sony.

Now, this is not the first time we have heard about Sony dipping its toes into the 200MP waters for top-tier smartphones. Back in July, a report suggested that Samsung, a major player known for its own ISOCELL camera sensors, might switch to a Sony 200MP sensor for its future Galaxy S26 Ultra. Plus, the 1/1.1″ sensor size mentioned in the OPPO leak matches the older report about Samsung. This consistency across different sources gives the speculation some real weight.

So, what does this all mean? The latest leak about the OPPO Find X9 Ultra not only adds significant fuel to the fire regarding a Sony-made 200MP mobile camera sensor for flagship phones. It also raises the possibility that both the upcoming OPPO Find X9 Ultra and the future Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra could end up sporting the very same Sony-powered main camera.

Samsung could still use ISOCELL

However, it is worth remembering that the camera specifications for the Galaxy S26 Ultra are still very much in the rumor stage. Other reliable sources have also claimed that Samsung might stick with an upgraded version of its own ISOCELL HP2 sensor for its next flagship.

The idea of a shared, powerful Sony 200MP sensor is certainly exciting. However, we will likely have to wait a little longer for more leaks to see exactly what camera sensor Samsung will use. One thing is for sure: the competition in the high-end smartphone camera market is about to get even more interesting.
