Apple is gearing up to unveil the iPhone 17 series in early September. There will be four models in the lineup, like the past few years,. However, this time, we will get a new ultra-slim variant instead of the “Plus” one: the iPhone 17 Air. A latest report now says that Apple has commenced mass production of all four iPhone 17 models as it gears up for the announcement. Apple’s main manufacturer, Foxconn, will handle the assembly orders.
Apple starts iPhone 17 mass production
China Securities Journal has learned from industry sources (via Patently Apple) that the iPhone 17 has entered mass production in China at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant. The contract manufacturer is reportedly luring workers with higher bonuses, possibly to fast-track things and meet the demand. It’s not confirmed how many iPhone 17 units will be initially shipped this year.
Foxconn’s regular workers will receive a personal bonus of 5,400 yuan ($752), and dispatch workers will receive a rebate of 8,000 yuan ($1,114) plus a subsidy of 1,600 yuan ($233). Some workers have reportedly received bonuses of up to 9,300 yuan ($1,294).
iPhone 17 assembly expands to India for the first time
Besides China, this will be the first time that all four iPhone 17 models will reportedly be assembled in India, which are meant for the US market. This also includes the iPhone 17 Pro variants. Apple has gradually expanded its iPhone production capacity in India in recent years and it has moved most of its US-bound iPhone production lines to India to reduce the impact of tariffs.
This expansion involves Tata Group’s plant in Tamil Nadu and Foxconn’s plant in Bangalore. Both of these facilities have reportedly started the assembly. Tata Group’s factories will account for up to half of India’s iPhone production in the next two years, said sources.
India’s iPhone exports have increased by a good number in the four months starting in April 2025. The total value of iPhone exports from India reached US$7.5 billion. Reportedly, Apple is planning to assemble the iPhone 17e in India. Discussions have begun for the iPhone 18 assembly in India as well
